A little video showing a Double Stack Train run the mainline on the temporary loop that’s in place to help test staging.

Nice — I do love a long stack train 8-). Also good on the camera work: feels a bit like one of those high-end railfan films where they have the budget to chase trains by helicopter.

BTW: what’s your vertical clearance standard? (This is a question I’ll have to permanently answer for myself sometime soon) I noticed some of your double-stacks looked pretty tight.

There’s about 2.75-3″ of clearance between decks. I forget the exact measurement. It’s just enough for my tallest trains and for my hand to reach in to pluck out any derailed cars (after moving other trains out of the way).

I’ve been running trains in and out of staging and so far have had zero problems. So I hope that continues on.

Last night I permanently installed the first piece of upper deck plywood over staging and will continue to do probably one section a night this week if the garage isn’t too cold. So mainline track laying will hopefully start in a week or two .

    Shaun,
Looking really good. Rolling trains are a thing of beauty. After the Stack Express exits staging into the sunshine, there are what appear to be curve radii templates machined from aluminum to the left (in pic) of the track. Can you provide any details?

    Philip,

Those are track alignment gauges made by RibbonRail. You can find them Walthers.com. I’ve got a bunch from 15″ to 25″, plus a 10″ straight. Really great tools for forming curves with ME track.

  1. No trackbacks yet.
