Benchwork is moving on up

December 7th, 2009

Tonight I bolted all of the modules together.  Went the “heavy duty” route, which means if there was a hole for a bolt, it got a bolt.

and then I attached the legs.  It had just a tiny bit of sag in the middle still (wood is kinda soft even with all the bolting), so I added two legs in the middle for some extra support.

Next step is to get some caster wheels for the legs so I roll the layout up against the wall when I’m not working on it.  I’ll probably also had a small diagonal brace to each leg as well for some extra support (legs are only attached with a single bolt).

Whose benchwork was this again? The quickness you are putting this back together is making me thing I should take a look at modular benchwork.

    This is all Seivers Benchwork.

I’ve used them before back in 2004 on an old layout. Good stuff for quick and simply benchwork building.

It’s not cheap if you have a large layout though, but if you’re like me and lack carpentry skills and tools, it could be worth it. Though you could always buy a few sections at a time instead of the whole thing at once.

Wow, you’re right, it isn’t cheap. I’ve got enough tools that I think I’ll just build my own. I was just impressed by how quickly you were getting it setup.
