Video & Break
I think my brain has experienced an overload of railroading. Let me explain.
For the past two weeks, I’ve been plowing ahead with constructing staging, building the lift, installing the new cabinets, doing track work, wiring staging turnouts, installed tortoise and wiring, installed feeders, and put down scenery. I’ve also been in this “I can’t stop thinking about the layout mode” where it seems like I’m brainstorming a hundred different ideas for a hundred parts of the layout all day, every day.
This evening I put down some scenery, followed by gluing down some cork roadbed, and sorta had this “what should I do next? how about this? how about that? or this.. or this…”. It’s like I just couldn’t make a decision on what I wanted to do.
In other words, tonight I hit that burnout phase like a ton of bricks. You may have had the same moment before where you have so many things on the to-do list but you almost just feel overwhelmed about it all. So tonight, I’m taking a step back from the layout for a days to let the brain recover, let ideas simmer for awhile, and start afresh soon.
Since I’m planning on not doing anything layout related for the weekend at a minimum, I took a few minutes tonight to record a sorta flyover-ish video of the layout. Nothing exciting, but gives you a look at how things are going.
Hope you enjoy, and see ya soon.

Shaun,
Great video, and great job. If it were me, I’d open a cool beverage, put on some great modern jazz, and just run some trains. Switch a few industries. Enjoy the fruits of your labors.
I hear ya! Just get away for a while–force yourself out of the train room for at least a few days. I almost hit burnout so I limited myself to just reading old Model Railroaders for a while. Then I decided I was stopping construction completely until I have a 100% complete track plan. That was about three weeks ago and I can say I am having a lot of fun with the track plan while I had hit the wall on construction. Just so you know, everything you have looks REALLY good. Jamie
Shaun, the video is great, it’s like I’m standing there in the layout room looking over the railroad.
I’m up against the same wall right now too, so much I wanna do and so much that needs to be done, that I don’t know what to start with.
Hopefully you’ll get over “the wall” and back into the swing of things soon!
