Strike the staging redesign

August 12th, 2009

I sketched out the current yard design this morning to see how turnout hookup would work, and it looks like I can actually still get away with using only three DS52′s with the current design where the ladder turnouts flip flop at the other end.

The first turnout at each end of the yard will get it’s own output on a DS52, but the inner turnouts at each end of a individual yard track can be combined to a single output on a DS52 since both ends of the yard track could either be closed or thrown at the same time. So yay.

So would this be the DCC equivalent of the old single push button aligns all the switches yard ladder that has been popular for DC layouts? Do you connect each suqsequent switch to the same terminals on the pc board?

    Yup, pretty much.

I was planning on simply utilizing JMRI to control the staging yard routes, where a single click on-screen switch will align everything as needed.

From the looks of it, for hooking up multiple turnouts you simply gang up the red wires together and connect to a terminal output on the board, and same for the black wire.
